Living My Duas
Protection From Grief
“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and grief.”
Muhammad (SAW) used to tie the anxiety and grief hand-in-hand, and sought protection from it. This includes the grief of the past, as well as the anxiety for the future.
- Grief is certainly part of the test of this world.
- However, it causes detriment to the believer’s heart.
- These emotions can both exhaust the heart, causing one to feel numb at times.
For those struggling with grief, Allah speaks about how He removes it for the believers when they enter into Jannah:
“And they will say, “Praise be to Allah, Who has kept away from us all causes of sorrow. Our Lord is indeed All-Forgiving, Most Appreciative.” (35:34)
- We do not have a choice over the grief experienced in this world. Allah deliberately puts it into our lives.
- And so what is the balance between Allah telling the believers not to grieve, even though He places this grief on us?
- This is the challenge of a believer: to be steadfast in intense faith even through difficulties.
