Living My Duas
Building The Mindfulness of The Qabar
The length of life is so short when one understands that they are the progeny of those who have lived and gone. Thus, the reality that we are the servants of Allah is greater than the life we are now living.
“O Allah, this is Your slave and the son of Your slave. He has left the comfort and expanse of this world, while those who loved him and those whom he loved are in it, for the darkness of the grave and whatever he will encounter. He used to bear witness that there is no god but You and that Muhammad is Your servant and Messenger. You know best about him. O Allah, he has gone to stay with You and You are the Best Host. He has become needful of Your Mercy and You have no need to punish him. We have come to You to beseech You as intercessors for him. O Allah, if he was one who did good then increase him in his good, and if he was a sinner then pardon him. Make him encounter Your pleasure through Your Mercy, and spare him the trials and punishment of the grave. Expand his grave for him and hollow out the earth from his sides. Make him encounter, through Your Mercy, safety from Your punishment until You resurrect him to Your Mercy, safety from Your punishment until You resurrect him to Your Paradise, o Most Merciful of the merciful.”
- One must bring the awareness of having to leave the comfort of this world and going to the darkness of the Qabar into their lives.
- This preparation is to make the believer mindful of the fact that Allah is a better comfort and a better home for them than this world; that He is a better Host for His servants.
- Though this Du’a is read for the believer that has passed away, it is a reminder for those living of the reality of life, and to Whom one will return to in death.
- The more one builds their relationship with Allah, the more it becomes a strength for them in their grave.
This Du’a uncovers how those on the other side of the grave are begging Allah to take care of the deceased. It also shows us the inability one has to make Du’a for themselves once they have passed away.
- Just as we constantly look after and beautify our homes, we should adopt the consistent remembrance of the Qabar.
- In the Qabar, we are in need of the mercy and happiness of Allah.
