Understanding The Miracle of The Qur’an

Early Morning Reflections

Surah Al-Baqarah: My Protection

“O humanity! Worship your Lord, Who created you and those before you, so that you may become mindful of Him.” (2:21)

“He is the One Who has made the earth a place of settlement for you and the sky a canopy; and sends down rain from the sky, causing fruits to grow as provision for you. So do not knowingly set up equals to Allah in worship.” (2:22)

Tawhid in Allah is seeing His perfection in all of creation; it is what allows the believer to sink in prayer to Him, for there is no equal to Allah.

“And if you are in doubt about what We have revealed to Our servant, then produce a surah like it and call your helpers other than Allah, if what you say is true.” (2:23)

“But if you are unable to do so–and you will never be able to do so–then fear the Fire fuelled with people and stones, which is prepared for the disbelievers.” (2:24)

In these Ayahs is the certitude of the Qur’an’s guidance and cure for those who believe in it, which redirects material desires and pursuits.

  • Allah brings one’s attention to the veracity of the Truth.
  • Found here is a challenge for the disbelievers, which also appears in other parts of the Qur’an.
  • The Kuffaar doubted the Qur’an. Allah showed them its message, but for the believers, it is a way of exposing us to its miracles, as it is in fact the miracle of Muhammad (SAW).
  • Its miracle cannot be seen or felt only until it is lived.
  • When one begins to put trust and belief in these Ayahs, they begin to have real effects in the believer’s life, such as protection and wellness, amongst many others.

In response to the doubt of the Qur’an, Allah challenges humanity to create something similar. Yet it is not possible, for the Qur’an’s expressions, descriptions, and eloquence is perfect. It is just and rich with guidance, and fills the believer’s life with Taqwa.

The Two Sahihs record that Abu Hurayrah (RA) said that Muhammad (SAW) said:

“Every Prophet was given a miracle, the type of which brings mankind to faith. What I was given is a revelation that Allah sent down to me. Yet, I hope that I will have the most following on the Day of Resurrection.”
