Tafseer 2026
Surah Al-Ahzab (Part Eleven)
When the believer connects everything to Allah, one begins to realise that the very essence of Tafseer must become a reality in their life. This means integrating Allah into every situation, moment, decision, and choice in life.
Every command of Allah’s is for the believer to submit to His will over their own, as they are designed for the wellbeing of the Mu’min; they are from a Rabb Who is taking care of and looking after His subjects. Because of this, one should think of the prohibitions Allah has put in place in the Qur’an as a guidance as well as a protection from harm and from one’s own weaknesses.
“O believers! Do not enter the homes of the Prophet without permission and if invited for a meal, do not come too early and linger until the meal is ready. But if you are invited, then enter on time. Once you have eaten, then go on your way, and do not stay for casual talk. Such behaviour is truly annoying to the Prophet, yet he is too shy to ask you to leave. But Allah is never shy of the truth. And when you believers ask his wives for something, ask them from behind a barrier. This is purer for your hearts and theirs. And it is not right for you to annoy the Messenger of Allah, nor ever marry his wives after him. This would certainly be a major offence in the sight of Allah.” (33:53)
Though the Sahabah (RA) loved Muhammad (SAW) greatly, Allah sent down commands for them on the etiquette to be observed with the Holy Prophet (SAW).
In this Ayah is the consideration for other Mu’mins. One needs to adopt that consideration to not put other believers into difficulty or create more tests for them. Because they are believers, be mindful and considerate of their needs.
Allah provides these rules so that the believer thinks of the wellbeing of other people. One must ensure they are setting that boundary of respect and consideration with others.
- The second etiquette concerns when to enter a home where an invitation to have a meal is provided; the believer should not go before or after the time specified.
- The third is remaining at that home for long after, engaging in casual talk. This is overstaying one’s welcome at another believer’s home.
- Both rules make it so that no believer infringes upon another’s time, schedule, and comfort.
When invites are not coordinated with the Hikmah of Allah, problems in interpersonal relationships will arise and escalate. This is a testament to the great love Allah shows for the believers in this Ayah, in which He considers the wellbeing of His servants even in seemingly “small” or “minute” interactions like this.
Our Deen is based on a Truth that stands the test of time; it cannot be changed or altered in different situations. Living by Allah’s Commands can solve many common social ills and problems, as they keep the believer from falling into harm.
In the same Ayah, the Sahabah (RA) were commanded to ask only that which was necessary of the wives of Muhammad (SAW) from behind a veil, however this rule applies to all believers with regards to the opposite sex. This is to protect the purity of one’s heart.
- If the Sahabah (RA) were not exempt from the possibility of engaging in Haraam, why would the common man be exempt?
- This applies to social media as well. One should observe a ‘veil’ between the opposite sexes, especially concerning people of Deen. There is a possibility of harm or Haraam in watching others from behind a digital screen.
- Meet the criteria for Allah’s rules, not for the wrongs that happen, but wrong that can happen. It is to protect the believer from future harm and wrong.
Social tests such as the high divorce rates and taking advantage of other people, amongst many others, are all results of these profound rules of Allah not being respected.
One should never undermine the Taqwa these rules can bring into the believer. Allah’s wisdom should not supersede our own; His wisdom should be recognised, seen, and understood in every law.
