Reviving Islam in My Life
Prioritising the Needs of Others Over Your Own
The day-to-day interactions of a believer should not be Dunya-focused, as this is the cause of problems in one’s relationships with other people.
The Sahabah (RA) had no airs and graces about them. The Sahabah (RA) ‘raised’ their daily matters, giving them purposes for the Aakhirah.
- If a relationship is unaligned with yours to the Aakhirah, begin conversations with Deen.
- As believers, one needs to base their relationships on the Aakhirah, and constantly remember that those they are dealing with are fellow Mu’mins.
- Interpersonal relationships cannot function if there is no basis of ‘Iman on them.
Muhammad (SAW) said:
“None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.”
- Fulfilling one’s brother’s or sister’s needs should override the believer’s own needs. This is the ability to worry about the needs of others over one’s own needs.
- As believers, we have to discard the idea of living in our own worlds. This allows one to prioritise others over oneself.
- Lower your guard with the intention of being better for the sake of Allah.
If the believer regards someone close to them, they cannot share their secrets with others.
Share with others with the understanding that a relationship will not stay the same in the future, as no relationship is guaranteed to remain amicable.
- If one truly admires a quality about a person, tell them, or else it will become jealousy.
- In order to protect relationships, the believer must constantly look for excuses for the behaviour of others.
- This allows the believer to avoid reasons to fight and cause turbulence in the lives of others as well as their own.
